At Statesville Glass & Shower Door, we have extensive experience in supplying and installing home windows. Your home’s windows make a big difference in how the space looks and feels, inside and out, so it’s important to choose the right model. In this article, our team will go over a handful of the most popular styles of home windows to give you a better idea of what your options are.

A Guide to Home Windows and Their Styles

  • Single-Hung Windows – Single-hung home windows are an extremely popular choice. They consist of a fixed upper pane, which may feature mullions dividing it into multiple visual segments, and a moveable lower panel that can be opened and shut.
  • Double-Hung Windows – Double-hung home windows are like single-hung windows in every way, except both the top and bottom panes can move. This allows you to further adjust the airflow into your space as needed.
  • Picture Windows – Another popular choice for home windows is picture windows, which consist of large panes of glass without mullions. Because the windowpane is not divided into smaller sections, it provides a clear, uninterrupted view of the landscape outside. Picture windows typically do not open, so they are not as useful for ventilation.
  • Sliding Windows – Sliding windows are another popular home window type. While technically single- and double-hung windows also slide, they are not called sliding windows; instead, that term is used for windows that open from side to side rather than up and down. Sliding windows are also not to be confused with casement windows, which open on hinges like doors.
